Every day here is a new opportunity for discovery.

DISCOVER THE AREA

Stroll through the Old Town

Your first walk in Nafplio begins in the Old Town, entering through the Land Gate, where history and elegant architecture reveal themselves from the very first steps. As you wander through the narrow streets, you’ll come across Agios Spyridon, the site of the assassination of Ioannis Kapodistrias, Syntagma Square with the Trianon and the Archaeological Museum, Agios Georgios where King Otto was crowned, as well as the Vouleftiko, the first Parliament of the newly established Greek state.

Walking among neoclassical mansions, Venetian details, and cobbled alleys, you feel as though you are experiencing the most important chapters of modern Greek history, in a city the Venetians once called the “Naples of the East.” Whether you’re admiring the architecture, enjoying a coffee, or taking a stroll by the sea, Nafplio proves to be the ultimate romantic getaway—just two hours from Athens and unforgettable in every corner.

History all around you

Nafplio is an ideal base for day trips to some of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. In less than an hour, you can reach Ancient Epidaurus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its impressive 4th-century BC theatre and its remarkable acoustics.

A little further north, Mycenae the legendary seat of Agamemnon takes you into the world of Homer, while to the east, Nemea combines history with local wine tradition, offering archaeological sites alongside wineries open for tastings.

All within close distance, perfect for a full day of exploration.

A breath away from nature

For an experience where nature meets mythology, head west to Lake Stymphalia, the southernmost mountain lake in Greece and an important bird sanctuary, also known from the myth of Heracles and the Stymphalian Birds.

At the same time, from Nafplio and nearby Tolo, you can enjoy sea excursions to secluded beaches and coves of the Argolic Gulf, while boats departing from Tolo take you to nearby islands of the Argosaronic Gulf, such as Spetses and Hydra perfect for a full-day summer escape.

Flavors and local tradition

Gastronomy in Nafplio is an integral part of the destination’s experience. In the Old Town and the surrounding villages, you’ll find tavernas and restaurants that highlight the local cuisine of Argolis, with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients and traditional recipes.

From seafood by the sea and homemade dishes to local cheeses, olive oil, and wines from Nemea, every meal becomes another opportunity to discover the region through its flavors.
